A Field Guide to a Documented Design Language
Juice boxes became structure.
Kids became engineers.
Kingston, 1980.
What started as play became a way of building. A logic repeated across yards, streets, and communities. Not written down — but understood.
The Jamaican box truck begins with three units:
Head — open back
Trailer — enclosed with open base channel
Base — vertical structural insert
Together, they form a complete structure.
Conventional — The full box is left intact, extending forward as a longer front.
Cab Over Engine (COE) — The sides are cut and pushed inward, creating a compact, vertical front.
The trailer remains horizontal while the base connects vertically, forming the signature structure.
The system can be extended using repeated modular units.
The modular system allows you to construct your own variations using primary and secondary box units.
Start with the base three-unit system, then expand using repeated modules.
